History
Avello® Bioenergy, Inc. was formed in early 2009 by graduate students of Dr. Robert C. Brown to commercialize technologies developed at Iowa State University. Avello was chosen as the Company name to describe the fundamental concept of the AvelloFRAC fast pyrolysis technology platform:
The founders bring core knowledge in thermochemical processing of biomass acquired during their time as researchers at Iowa State University’s Center for Sustainable Environmental Technology (CSET). This knowledge includes integrated fast pyrolysis process design, construction and operation; technoeconomic analysis, and product characterization.
Seed funding was secured and experienced management added in mid-2009. Avello executed licenses with Iowa State University Research Foundation for its core technologies in 2010.
Avello Bioenergy currently occupies office and laboratory space at the BioCentury Research Farm (BCRF).
