Avello Bioenergy conducts Biofuel Oil™ Combustion Test with Brookhaven National Laboratory
Avello successfully combusted Biofuel Oil™ in a residential heating oil burner at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The 100% pyrolysis oil blend showed excellent flame stability, reduced CO2 and NOx emissions and comparable SOx emission with respect to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD). Avello continues to work with BNL to test Biofuel Oil in various combustion applications. Biofuel Oil has lower moisture content and increased heating value compared to conventional pyrolysis oil.
On May 9-10, 2012 Dennis Banasiak from Avello Bioenergy attended the Technical Information Exchange on Pyrolysis Oil Workshop conducted by the Department of Energy - Biomass Program. Attendees of the workshop discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with the development and deployment of biomass derived home heating oil products for U.S. markets. Information about Avello's Biofuel Oil and the BNL combustion test were featured in a presentation from Tom Buthcer (BNL, Sustainable Energy Technologies Department) that can be viewed here: Qualification of Alternative Fuels
